About LitMarker

LitMarker marks your GCSE or A-Level essay against your exam board’s real mark scheme and shows you where you lost marks. 50,000+ students have signed up.

What LitMarker does

Paste or type your essay, upload a Word document, a typed PDF or a text file, or take a photo of handwritten work. LitMarker gives you an estimated grade, a mark, line-by-line feedback and a mark for every assessment objective (AO), so you can see exactly where the marks went.

Grades follow your course: 9 to 1 at GCSE, and A* to E at A-Level.

Pick a question from the bank or write your own. The bank has over 1,000 GCSE English Literature questions for AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas, over 350 Pearson Edexcel A-Level questions (including all eight Shakespeare plays on the spec), AQA Specification A questions for Papers 1, 2A and 2B, and writing tasks for Edexcel and Eduqas English Language. For anything else, type in your own question and it is marked the same way.

Courses and exam boards

  • GCSE English Literature: AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas
  • GCSE English Language: AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas
  • GCSE History: AQA, Edexcel
  • A-Level English Literature: AQA Specification A (7712), Papers 1, 2A and 2B, Pearson Edexcel (9ET0), Components 1, 2 and 3

More boards and subjects are coming soon.

One account covers both levels. You pick GCSE or A-Level when you sign up and can switch in Settings at any time.

LitMarker is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, AQA, Edexcel (Pearson) or Eduqas. We use board names only to say which specification an essay is marked against.

Who it is for

LitMarker is built for GCSE and A-Level students, most of whom are 14 to 18. You need to be 13 or over to sign up.

How your essay is marked

Every essay is marked against your exam board’s mark scheme for the question you answered. You get a grade, a mark for each assessment objective and feedback on how to improve. Your name, email address and account are never attached to your essay when it is marked.

Marks are AI-generated estimates for study, not official grades. Read our Terms of Service for what the marks do and do not mean, and our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled.

Who runs LitMarker

LitMarker is run by Samy Adel, a sole trader trading as LitMarker.
