AQA's two papers are marked question by question. Writing is marked on content and organisation (AO5) and technical accuracy (AO6). Question 1 on each paper (multiple choice, and true-or-false statements) is not offered.

Eduqas GCSE English Language marking

Eduqas has two components, each with a reading section and a writing section. Component 2 Section B has two compulsory tasks, each marked separately. The short retrieval questions are not marked.

Which GCSE English Language exam boards does LitMarker cover?

AQA (8700), Pearson Edexcel (1EN0) and Eduqas (C700). Each has its own section on this page, with the questions that can be marked.

Does LitMarker mark reading questions as well as writing?

Yes. You can submit the language, structure, evaluation and comparison questions on each board, as well as the 40-mark writing tasks, and each is marked on the assessment objectives for that question. The short retrieval and multiple-choice questions are not marked: AQA Question 1 on each paper, Edexcel's one- and two-mark questions, and Eduqas Component 1 Question 1 and Component 2 Questions 1.1 and 1.3.

How is English Language writing marked?

Writing is marked on content and organisation (AO5) and technical accuracy (AO6), which includes spelling, punctuation and grammar. AQA and Edexcel writing tasks and Eduqas Component 1 Section B are out of 40. Each Eduqas Component 2 Section B task is out of 20.

Can I practise English Language writing questions?

Yes. The question bank has over 20 writing questions for each board: AQA Paper 1 Question 5 and Paper 2 Question 5, Edexcel imaginative and transactional writing, and Eduqas creative prose and transactional and persuasive writing. For reading questions, type or paste your own.

Are there GCSE English Language mock papers?

They are coming soon for AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas. Until then you can mark any writing question from the bank, or paste in the extract and question you are practising, and get a grade and feedback on every answer.
